WETT Inspections

Ensure your wood-burning system is safe, compliant, and ready for use.

At Home Safe Inspections, I provide professional WETT inspections for wood stoves, pellet stoves, fireplaces, and chimneys. Whether you’re buying, selling, or need documentation for insurance, a WETT inspection gives you confidence that your system meets current safety standards.

What is a WETT Inspection?

A WETT inspection is a detailed evaluation of solid fuel-burning appliances and venting systems, conducted in accordance with Wood Energy Technology Transfer (WETT) standards. These inspections are commonly required by insurance companies and are essential for identifying potential fire or safety hazards.

What I Inspect

During a WETT inspection, I assess all visible and accessible components of the system, including:

  • Wood stoves, pellet stoves, and fireplaces
  • Chimneys and flue systems
  • Clearances to combustibles
  • Hearths and floor protection
  • Venting and chimney connections
  • Signs of damage, creosote buildup, or improper installation

All inspections are visual and non-invasive, in line with WETT guidelines.

Why You Need a WETT Inspection

  • Insurance Requirements – Most insurers require a valid WETT report for coverage
  • Home Purchases & Sales – Protect your investment and avoid surprises
  • Safety – Identify fire hazards, improper installations, and clearance issues
  • Peace of Mind – Know your system is operating as intended

When Should You Get One?

  • Buying or selling a home with a wood-burning appliance
  • Installing a new stove or fireplace
  • If the system is older or has unknown history
  • When requested by your insurance provider

What You Receive

After the inspection, you’ll receive a WETT-certified report outlining:

  • System components and condition
  • Compliance with current standards
  • Any deficiencies or safety concerns
  • Clear recommendations for repair or upgrade (if needed)
